Our Mission

CORA SCHWARTZ had a dream.  Her multi-faceted endeavor envisioned sparking the interests of writers in the United States and Ukraine.  The originating mission was, and still is to fulfill the dream of a famous Ukrainian writer (Olga Kobylanskia 1863-1942) whose sincerest wish was to make her women and their writing known to the outside world. Our audience will experience refreshing material coming from both countries through a platform focused on increased communication between the two groups.  Advertising offering services and opportunities in the writing world will be accepted with the understanding that the current economic situation in Ukraine is being taken into account.  Given the exorbitant postal rate of mailing a book to Ukraine, ($22+) we have to accept advertising for digital books only.  Our chat room will be open to writers in both countries for an exchange of comments, advice, and encouragement.  We are seeking volunteer, American writers who are willing to engage in ‘gentle’ critiquing (as opposed to editing) of short stories to help new, Ukrainian writers gain confidence. Note please that all writing will be submitted in English. No political material of any kind will be accepted.

We are also re-opening MY RETREAT on May 1st to provide physical space to writers in the New York area who need a quiet, simple place to work without distraction. Our Thoreau-like cottages will be reasonably priced and set up in a way conducive to the needs of creative souls.  While it is acknowledged that the retreat will probably only be utilized by American writers, you never know! Stay tuned.

Voices From My Retreat is a labor of love. We do invest a lot of time and energy into our mission. If you find enjoyment or inspiration in our offering, please do consider helping us along with a donation.
